Children can be an important part of a wedding celebration, however boredom can strike at any moment and it can be a long day for little ones. We’ve pulled together five of our favourite ideas to keep children of all ages suitably entertained throughout your big day.
Dessert Carts
Who doesn’t love a sweet treat? A dessert cart will keep the kids (and some adults too!) happily entertained. Dessert carts are a great way to add some extra wow-factor to your wedding. Save some cash and create your own sweet cart by DIY-ing some scoops, paper bags and place cards, adding the bride and groom’s favourite sweets.

Personalised Activity Packs
A great way to keep kids entertained for hours, particularly during the meal, is by creating activity packs for at the ceremony. Pop some pencils and crayons on the table with wedding themed colouring sheets, get the kids to design their own wedding cake or get creative and make a ‘Wedding I Spy’ game to get the whole table involved in spotting things such as flowers, the wedding cake and more. Pinterest and Google are great places to find easily printable activity sheets for you to make your own or find pre-made packs ready to purchase online.
Personalise the activity packs with their favourite toys such as small Lego sets, puzzles, mini board games and dolls to keep kids of all ages kept busy, quiet and suitably amused even through the speeches.
Wedding Nanny
For smaller children, particularly if the bride and groom have their own, a great way to ensure the day progresses with ease is to hire a wedding nanny. They provide professional, qualified childcare throughout your big day to keep kids entertained while you enjoy the wedding.
Wedding nannies provide a variety of services, from creche areas to activity themed childcare to allow the adults to enjoy the meal and dancing child-free and relieve the grandparents from duty ensuring all the family can enjoy the big day.
Activity Station
If you’re having a summer wedding, outdoor games such as giant Connect 4, ring toss, hook a duck, twister or outdoor Jenga is sure to keep them entertained and maybe even get the adults involved too! Having a set area means the kids can interact together during the reception and allow the adults peace of mind that their children are having a great time too.
Children’s Entertainment
Incorporating children into your wedding by playing some songs they’ll love or getting them to join in on the dancing can be a great way for them to be involved. Another idea could be having a pinata for the kids filled with fun treats, small toys, sweets and more. For a summer wedding, Little Pastel Castles bounce houses are a fantastic addition to your big day and come in a variety of stylish shades so you can even match it to your colour scheme!
If you have teens in attendance hiring a foosball table, ping pong table or pool table for the night can be a great idea. You could even incorporate a score table or leaderboard for them to keep track of the score and have a trophy or prize for the winner to keep things competitive.
